You should consult the local garden center for a view on whether your selection is suitable to your garden.
Landscape roses
Landscape roses are great for the beginner. They are resistant to disease, and need a little bit less maintenance.
Hybrid teas are not good for the gardening newcomer.
Climbing Roses
These plants are different from the regular roses as they are trained to climb upward just like vines. Many gardeners like to use these for walls or pegolas. Some varieties are wichuraiana, hybrid teas and large headed climbers. They can be a delightful addition to the appeal of a house and garden.
Shrub Roses
Shrub roses including the gorgeous rugosa have a long flowering season and are resistant to disease. These are also an excellent choice for the novice. They are beautiful even when they are not in bloom as the foliage is so pretty.
Old Garden Roses
These roses would be a bad choice for anyone with bad allergic reactions to powerful fragrances as these roses have a powerful fragrant scent. However, they bloom for many months at a time and are resistant to disease.
The Modern Rose
These are a special category of rose as they are the effect of crossing the polyanthus with the hybrid tea. They are also called Floribunda. They are a lovely amalgamation of the best the two flowers have to offer. They are long blooming, fragrant and great for cutting.
Miniature Roses
Miniature roses are literally what they sound like. They have all of the beauty and fragrance of a standard rose, but they have smaller blooms. This rose category are a great choice for containers.
