Chainsaw Prices – Gas Or Electric Chainsaws?

Getting a handle on chainsaw prices takes a little homework but if you're prepared to do some research, you can save yourself a little money when making a purchase.

The main thing to remember is big names such as Stihl and Husqvarna will be popular choices for consumers and some of the lesser known names such as Poulan, Echo, McCulloch and Homelite may offer excellent alternatives at cheaper prices.

Gas Powered vs. Electric

There have been many comparisons conducted between gas powered and electric chainsaws and the truth is, a quality electric saw can still be an expensive purchase.

When comparing chainsaw prices you should not make your decision based on price alone. Your decision should be based on other factors including the reason why you need a chainsaw in the first place.

For example, why purchase the most expensive and biggest Stihl model on the market when you're only going to be revving it up a few times a year. And why buy the biggest model when all you need to do is trim the occasional hedge or cut small chunks of wood. Yes, it would be great having a "bells and whistles" Stihl or Husqvarna model chainsaw but you need to think in terms of relativity and purchasing a saw in relation to your needs is really all you need to do.

If that's the case, then an electric model for less than a hundred bucks could be all you require. Some major stores have great deals on saws and offer appealing chainsaw prices on less obscure brands.

Don't be put off by this because these machines offer some excellent features and for regular yard maintenance work, are hard to beat.

The same goes with the gas powered range if you're requiring more flexibility and don't want to be restricted by a chord. Think small machine and for around $150, you'll pick yourself up a very good quality chainsaw.

Here are some smaller machines to consider for occasional users but shouldn't be considered the best priced models around. Your research, requirement and judgment will still come into play:

- The Stihl MS 170 chainsaw
- The Stihl 180 C-B Mini Boss
- The Husqvarna 353
- The Remington range for those shopping electric chainsaws
