Sell Photos - Make Some Money

by Kathy Austin

Photography, whether practiced as a hobby or as a profession is fun. The fun would be more if you could use of these photos to make some money, slowly and steadily, without interfering with your current work timetable, and relatively easily.

All that is needed is a digital camera and a fast broadband Internet connection. If you already have both for quite some time, the matter becomes even more simpler as you are bound to have accumulated a sizable number of photos during the course of your random ramblings or during your family vacations.

It is immaterial whether you are a professional or an amateur. There is no discrimination based on sex or age. All that is needed is a camera, a jest for life and a flair and desire for taking photographs. Various people buy photos for various reasons. To name a few: Web Designers, Magazine Editors, Travel Agents, Insurance Companies, Banks and even Chefs and Students.

You photos are not purchased based on the sex or age of the photographer. It is the content that matters most. The people who purchase photos come from all walks of life - web designers, travel agents, magazine editors, students and even banks and chefs. Each one of them has a specific requirement and the place they look for it is the Internet and that is the place where your photos aught.

Having established that the Internet is the best place to sell photos, just how does one go about it? Well the best for a novice would be the “Photo Stock Sites” . Here you upload your collection (Stock) of photos, sit back and wait for the money to trickle in. It takes time and that is where the patience comes in. Perseverance plays its part in that you keep on taking photographs and uploading them. Sooner or later some of them will be sold and experience will tell you what sells.

Another method would be to build and maintain your own site. This can be done in either of two ways. One, start from scratch and build your own site by yourself. This requires some in-depth knowledge of coding and SEO techniques. The decision on the layout and look of the web site, what photos should be displayed, how long they are to be exhibited are all yours. It is yours to do what you want.

If programming is not your forte, doesn’t matter, entrust the job to a professional Web designer. Make it explicitly clear what you expect on the web site and its purpose. Have a few more confabulations, relax and there you have it. Maybe a week or two depending on whether you intend to maintain it for your personal use or whether you intend to let others also use it like a Photo Stock Site.

It is better to start with the stock photo option initially and buyers start trickling in, it is time a web site of your own becomes a reality. A simple variation is to ride piggy-bank on some established web site that caters to just such business. Of course you will have to pay a fee for the use of their services. So, if you have a lot of photos and want to sell them, try the methods outlined above and see what you get. If you do not have photos, go out and get them or get some from your friends or relatives and get started. And Good Luck to you!
